In 2003 we started our IMPACT sessions on Sunday's which was initiated by our dear friend, the late Joanna Fawcett. Joanna had worked with Morecambe and Lancaster Homeless Action and saw the great need to help the Homeless and those in poor accommodation in this very needy area, the West End of Morecambe. Partnering with her friend Doreen and other volunteers they saw the work grow as many came through the door in need of a hot meal and a friendly chat.

The work grew so rapidly that we decided to open on Thursday mornings for lunch too, and as more volunteers, including our Manager Tracy, were able to get involved more hands on, we tried to discover more ways of helping meet the needs that were brought to our attention. We obviously had to be involved with other agencies who had similar aims to ours, and have built up many relationships with organisations to which we been able to refer many clients. Drug and alcohol rehabilitation is a big issue. Presently we are running one support group as a pilot project and are hoping to expand it in the near future. We partner with the YMCA who are doing an amazing job in helping our clients with all housing and benefit related issues.

Morrisons of Morecambe kindly allowed us to have a bin where customers can place non-perishable items which have been put to good use. Local schools and churches donate their harvest festicals to our work.

We are always looking to new ways to fund this project, and especially in winter there is a great need for sleeping bags and emergency items for those literally sleeping on the streets. We would love eventually to be able to provide emergency sleeping but for now are looking to have enough money to be able to book people into a B&B for a few nights. If anyone feels they can contribute in any way to this project do not hesitate to contact us. This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
