With all this discussion about what muslims should and shouldn’t wear and what rights they have to keep their religious beliefs and traditions here in Britian, it got me to thinking about our rights as Christians. Do we take a strong enough stand against things that are just not Christian. Well I guess the answer is that we don’t. This is supposed to be a Christian country and before the 2nd world war it evidentanly stood by many Christian values and principles, but now it rarely does. One of the problems that people may see in the Christian faith is that we have so much freedom and other religions just can’t cope with that, because they are based on fear and rules and regulations. That is where our demoracy came in, and muslims or other countries just don’t have that, so they don’t think that we should have it either. That is one of the reason why many muslims want to bring in extreme laws that apply to them in their religion. They can not stand the freedom that we have. Also I think that people are starting to be fearful of the fact now that it seems to be all about the rights of the muslims and not much about our rights as British Citizens. If only this country would get back to the Christian values it used to have. I even heard recently that a news reader was asked to remove her cross whilst reading the news as it may be offensive. I have already written about how a girl who was asked to remove her silver ring at school which represented her pledge to remain virgin until marriage, also a value encouraged in the Christian faith. I even heard recently that a church removed a sign outside their church with a Bible verse on it because they were told it may be offensive to the public. What is going on in this country? In our fight to be free and be accepting of all people we are, in fact, losing our freedom to stand up for our Christian beliefs and faith in God. It’s about time we started to stand firm!!
